New York Jets likely to play Week 5 game without WR Stephen Hills and TE Dustin Keller – NFL News
New York Jets will likely be playing without four of their offensive team starters on Monday, October 08, 2012, as they face Houston Texans in Week 5 game. This includes tight end Justin Keller, fullback John Conner, wide receiver Santonio Holmes and Stephen
Hill.
According to various reports, all four players are highly unlikely to play. Keller, Hill and Conner are out with hamstring problems while Holmes is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano expressed his concerns on Friday, October 05, about missing his top offensive players. Sparano said:
"I would urge you to go look at the last time that we've really had No.84 (Stephen Hill), No.81 (Keller), No.11 (Kerley) and No.10 (Holmes) on the field at the same time."
In the defensive side, nose tackle Sione Pouha is expected not to play on Monday due to back injury. Jets are already missing cornerback Darrelle Revis, who is out with a season-ending injury.
This makes Jets look even worse as compared to their Week 4 game against San Francisco 49ers, during which they showed diminishing performance to lose the game 0-34.
The defence has looked meagre failing to reach the end zone in many of their plays. In fact, they have scored just one touchdown in their last 34 possessions.
Facing Texans defence will not be the easiest of tasks for Jets who will have running back Shonn Greene as their best player on the field. Greene himself has struggled this season.
In absence of their starting receivers, Jets will play Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and backup wide receiver Clyde Gates. They might also play their newly signed veteran receiver Jason Hill who was added on the roster in place of injured Holmes.
Revis will be replaced by cornerback Kyle Wilson who has previously expressed his emotions about difficulty of replacing a player like Revis.
Jets must hope to get a better performance from quarterback Mark Sanchez who has faltered this season with poor play.
