New York Jets meet Buffalo Bills in Week 1 game – NFL Preview
New York Jets will host Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium as both teams will kick off their season on Sunday, September 09, 2012. It will be a challenging game for both teams who are looking for a fresh start.
Bills are coming into the 2012 season after losing all four of their preseason games. They will start the season against a team who had the same fortune.
Jets also failed to win during the preseason. Moreover, their starting offence failed to score even a single touchdown in all four preseason games.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan has come out and accepted that his team has not been able to meet the expectations of fans.
Playing in the regular season is a totally different ball game and there will be some surprises from Jets for Bills as they show off their secret wildcard package Tim Tebow. According to the Associated Press, Ryan said:
"All that work that you've done, all the work that the players have done, the lifting and all the meetings and things, it's for this. It's not to win a preseason game. It's to be at your very best when the regular season starts."
The addition of Tebow by Jets made huge buzz in New York throughout the offseason. He is named as a backup quarterback, but his dynamic game will be useful for Jets. Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez is coming off a career-best season and will be much
more focused to improve his game in presence of Tebow.
Wide receiver Santonio Holmes has spent most of the offseason away from the field and it is uncertain that how much output he will be able to give in the season opener.
Bills offence will mainly depends on the performance of their sparkling quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was superb last season and was able to cover more than 3,500 passing yards along with 24 touchdowns. Fitzpatrick will get the support from his favourite
target Stevie Johnson.
Jets were ranked fourth in the overall defence in the 2011 season and have almost the same team this time. Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is the backbone of the defensive team.
Like Jets, Bills also have high hopes of their defence, especially after the addition of sensational defence end Mario Williams.
Bills defence will be a totally different team in the presence of Williams. The addition of the most expensive defensive player could prove to be the catalyst for Bills success this season.
Last season Bills got to a fantastic start, winning five of their first seven games, but were unable to capitalise on that. Head coach Chan Gailey is hoping that this time his team will be much more consistent. Gailey said:
“We should have done it last year but we did not finish out the way we should have. So we get a chance to do it this year.”
It will be a clash between two underdogs. Jets have managed to win last five encounters between the two sides, but every new season brings new opportunities and Bills defence might prove strong enough to contain the Jets.
