New York Jets not to part ways with Brian Schottenheimer – NFL News
The New York Jets are not ready as yet to part ways with their offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer despite being eliminated from the playoffs and if he has leaves them; it will be his own decision.
The coordinator has been under a lot of criticism lately which increased a lot after the Jets 29-14 loss to the New York Giants. Much hype had been created over the Jets encounter with the Giants with tall claims made by the Jets
themselves. So when a defeat came, a lot of heat fell on Schottenheimer. Critics included angry fans and writers who wrote against him in newspaper and on the internet. Some even called for him to be fired.
However, Schottenheimer came safe after the Jets coach Rex Ryan came to his rescue. It was at that critical stage that Ryan expressed his confidence in Schottenheimer saying he had confidence in all of his coaches. Ryan went to
the extent of saying he had “huge amount” of confidence in him.
That saved the day for Schottenheimer under whom the Jets rank as the 27th in the league with regards to offense. The improvement in performance under Schottenheimer that has been expected could not come but he still managed to
save his job.
The clash with Miami Dolphins that saw the Jets eliminated from playoffs seems to have no impact on the coordinator. It was being expected that this time Schottenheimer will be fired following the disgraceful defeat but the Jets
have stood behind their coach.
So, until and unless Schottenheimer decides to leave himself, there are no chances he will be sacked. Schottenheimer is expected to be interviewed for the head coach post for Jaguars. This was confirmed by the Jets general manager
Mike Tannenbaum who said they were expecting Schottenheimer back.
“We do expect Brian Schottenheimer back. We’ve been with him now for six years and I really respect the job he’s done in terms of working with three different quarterbacks (and leading Jets to) two championship games. He’s done
a really credible job for us.” Tannenbaum said.
Ryan was not short of commending his coach whom he said was a successful person and knew how to “develop” players. Ryan said that Schottenheimer deserved to be the head coach.
“He’s got everything it takes to be a successful head coach in this league.” Ryan said.
Fans who wanted Schottenheimer to leave can now only hope that he lands up with a job with the Jaguars. Otherwise he is here to stay and there is nothing much they can do about it.
