New York Jets owner Woody Johnson leaning towards Tim Tebow for starting quarterback post – NFL News
Although many analysts believe that making Tim Tebow starting quarterback would not solve the problems New York Jets are currently facing, Jets owner looks to have other opinion in this matter after saying some tough words for Mark Sanchez.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV on Monday, October 01, 2012, Johnson looked stiff for Sanchez as he criticised his team for their performance against San Francisco 49ers in Week 4 tie which they lost deplorably by 0-34.
During the interview, Johnson was asked about the chances of Tebow starting for Jets in coming weeks. Johnson’s reply was:
"A question that will be asked more frequently if this progresses because this is unacceptable playing."
Sanchez finished the game with meagre statistics. He completed 13 out 29 passes for just 103 yards and failed to score.
Another thing that was noticed during the interview was that Johnson initially used the term “that quarterback” for Sanchez.
That might indicate a change of perception in Johnson’s eyes for a player he previously called the man who can get the job done for the Jets.
Tebow has just 15 snaps at quarterback this season. Jets head coach Rex Ryan has clearly stated after Sunday’s loss that Sanchez will remain the starter despite his recent woes. Ryan previously said:
"I'm not ready to make a quarterback change. Obviously we've got to get better play at quarterback, and we got to get better play at a lot of things. You look at yourself first, and there's things we clearly all need to do. Mark's the answer at quarterback."
Even with all the support from the coach, Sanchez might still face the heat if Johnson decides to step in the matter.
Johnson has the reputation of not sitting down quietly in the matters which need attention. He will interfere where he thinks he needs to.
No matter who will be the starting quarterback for Jets, he will face a mountainous challenge of giving better out in absence of their best wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
