New York Jets’ owner Woody Johnson may consider Peyton Manning – NFL News Update
Despite his support for the QB (quarterback), Mark Sanchez, it seems that New York Jets’ owner, Woody Johnson would not rule out the possibility of considering other options, including Peyton Manning, if he becomes available.
The recent strides come in contrast to an outright support that the owner has been exhibiting for his QB, Sanchez, in the past.
Though still confident of his quarterback, Johnson is not a 100 percent sure if Sanchez would be the starting quarterback next year.
“I'm not going to ever tell you guys what we may or may not do,” Johnson said.
Johnson said that it was his job to get the team to the “top level” and that is what he had been saying since the beginning.
He is quite confident that he can do this and in order to accomplish this task, the owner said he would look into any and every possibility.
Sanchez has been facing loads of criticism in recent weeks as he failed to lead his team to the playoffs. Dejected fans have questioned his ability to lead the team apart, casting doubt over the QB being the long term answer to the team’s woes.
As if that was not enough, some anonymous players took to a newspaper to hit out on the quarterback, going as far as to suggest that Sanchez was “lazy” and “content”.
Jets’ running back, LaDainian Tomlinson did not stay far behind the critics.
Though Tomlinson was of the view that Sanchez was not “lazy”, yet he came forward, saying the quarterback was a bit “pampered” as he had no competition around him and called for a strong back up in order to boost his performance.
Having some competition to help Sanchez improve his performance may just be exactly what Johnson is trying to achieve.
This became evident when he said the team would explore all possibilities and it was never 100 percent sure that Sanchez would start this year.
However, Johnson is quite aware that Sanchez being 10 years younger than Manning has time to learn and improve.
“With Mark, you have a 25-year-old quarterback that you can develop", he said.

"You can have a quarterback for 10 years with a guy like this."
Repeating his confidence in Sanchez, Johnson said that the new offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano would help him get back on the track.
The owner added:
“My feeling is that Mark is the kind of guy that will learn from this and get better. We are going to try to make the offence maybe a little bit more suitable to what Mark's development is.”
Sanchez has been completing just 56.7 percent of his passes this season for 3,474 yards, while he has thrown 26 touchdowns. He has also gone for 18 interceptions which was one of the main reasons why the critics
have come hard on him.
