New York Jets performance analysis after first seven weeks of the 2012 season – NFL Special Part 1
New York Jets performance has been up and down throughout this season. Sometimes it looked as if they would have success this season. Yet, on other occasions it seemed their hopes for postseason were over.
From quarterback play to injury worries, it has been a very controversial season for Jets. They are currently placed third in the American Football Conference (AFC) East with 3-4 record.
In this article, we will review Jets’ performance of the season.
The season started very well for the Jets, but things changed drastically as quarterback Mark Sanchez looked lacklustre while Tim Tebow’s wildcat package failed to live up to the expectations.
On the defensive side, Jets were plagued by injuries to many of their starters which led to the team giving away lots of points in important games.
Week 1: Buffalo Bills
New York Jets broke the franchise record for scoring most points in a regular season opener as they won by 48-28 against Buffalo Bills.
Sanchez produced a stunning performance against a high-priced Bills offence. He finished with 19 of 27 for 266 yards and three touchdowns. The young wide receiving corps gave good support to Sanchez.
Backup quarterback Tim Tebow’s hyped up wildcat package did not look very extravagant as he carried the ball five times for a meagre 11 yards.
The biggest setback that came out of this game for Jets was the injury to star cornerback Darrelle Revis. He got a concussion in the final quarter of the game.
The defence had a good game as they intercepted Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick three times.
Week 2: Pittsburgh Steelers
Jets got their first loss of the season as they got a 10-27 beating by Pittsburgh Steelers. Jets defence looked thin in absence of Revis.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger took full advantage of it as he finished with 24 of 31 for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
Jets offence hardly looked impressive as Tebow had just one drive during the entire game. Steelers defence looked strong despite missing safety Troy Polamalu.
Sanchez ended up with 10 of 27 for 138 yards and scored one touchdown. Running game was very poor again.
Week 3: Miami Dolphins
Jets came out winners in an exciting 23-20 victory against Miami Dolphins. The game went into overtime in which kicker Nick Folk got an all important field goal with six minutes left on the clock.
The Gang Green suffered another setback as Revis sustained a knee injury that proved disastrous for him.
Revis was later found to have a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and was placed on injured reserve.
Sanchez remained unimpressive during the game as he finished with 21 of 45 for 306 yards and a touchdown. He got most of the offensive plays as Tebow got a limited playing time on the field.
