New York Jets performance analysis after first seven weeks of the 2012 season – NFL Special Part 2
Our performance analysis of New York Jets’ first seven games continues as we now look at their performance from Week 4 to 7.
Week 4: San Francisco 49ers
Jets were completely battered by San Francisco 49ers in a 34-0 thrashing as quarterback Mark Sanchez and company failed to score a single point.
49ers’ running game was exceptional throughout the game as they covered more than 200 rushing yards.
Jets’ bad day on the field got worse when their Pro Bowl wide receiver Santonio Holmes injured his foot and left the game. The injury was diagnosed to be a very serious one and ended the season for Holmes.
The shutout offence raised many questions about whether quarterback Mark Sanchez was capable enough to take the team into postseason.
There was no sign of Tim Tebow getting more playing time which led to more anger from fans as they shouted for seeing him on the field.
Even 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick scored in a game where Jets defence looked invisible.
Week 5: Houston Texans
Houston Texans got 23-17 win over Jets in a tantalising game. It was Texans’ first-ever victory over Jets, and was marked by an astounding performance from running back Arian Foster.
Foster ended the game with 29 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Matt Schaub also had a good day on the field.
Jets gave a much better performance after a miserable output in previous week. They got many chances to take the game away from Texans, but failed to capitalise on the given opportunities.
Tebow showed his skills after pushing through a pass in place of a fake punt. Sanchez had an average game.
Week 6: Indianapolis Colts
It was a welcome win for Jets after losing two games in a row as they beat Indianapolis Colts 35-9.
Running game was revitalised after running back Shonn Greene rushed for a career-best 161 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the passing game lacked the spice as Sanchez was left with a limited role on the field.
Week 7: New England Patriots
Jets put up a good show against a formidable American Football Conference (AFC) East rivals New England Patriots. However, they failed to get a win in their bag as they lost the game 26-29.
Patriots got the victory in overtime, thanks to a 48-yard field goal from kicker Stephen Gostkowski.
Jets kicker Nick Folk played an important role in keeping the Jets closer to Patriots as he scored four field goals.
Sanchez’s fumbles during the game cost Jets dearly in the end as it led to the field goal in overtime.
