New York Jets’ present receiver, Plaxico Burress, wanted to return to New York Giants: Brandon Jacobs
New York Giants’ running back, Brandon Jacobs, has revealed that the present New York Jets’ wide receiver, Plaxico Burress, wanted to return to Giants last year, but could not do so because of some financial matters.
While speaking to the media in Indianapolis on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, Jacobs informed that Burress is coming to watch the Super Bowl XLVI game between New York Giants and New England Patriots.
“Yes, he will be here," Jacobs said. "I do know that. He will be here.”
Burress, a former Giants’ player, scored a game-winning touchdown when these two sides met in the Super Bowl XLII.
He caught a pass from quarterback, Eli Manning, with less than a minute left on the clock and gave Giants a decisive three-point lead.
He spent the next year with Giants before being sent behind the bars for 20 months on the charge of keeping illegal weapons possession.
Before joining Jets in 2011, Burress met with the Giants’ officials who did not offer him a deal as good as Jets’.
Jacobs, who is Burress’ close friend and stays in contact with him, said that Plaxico could be back in the Giants’ line-up next year.
He said:
“Oh, no question, I know he did. I know he wanted to come to the Giants. We just didn't think it was going to be able to be done financially. But he may be (back) next year, who knows?"
Jets failed to qualify for the playoffs this season after eight victories and eight defeats and was placed at second spot in the American Football Conference (AFC) East division ranking table.
Burress, who started 13 out of 16 games, finished with 612 yards on 45 receptions for eight touchdowns.
Even if Burress does not join Giants in the next season, Jacobs is certain that the wide receiver would part ways with Jets.
He was of the view that Burress’ record in the season could have been much better had he been utilised properly.
"I don't see him back with the Jets next year at all," Jacobs said.
He added that:
"I don't know what he's thinking, but I don't see that. They've got a lot of things going on over there, and I don't know if he wants to be part of that."
Jacobs’ remarks and tone implied that he was speaking more as a friend than a professional football player.
However, Burress’ reunion with Giants is not anticipated as he did some trash-talk a few months ago and criticised Manning, and coach, Tom Coughlin.
