New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez believes getting benched was a blessing in disguise – NFL News
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez thinks that being benched during Week 13 game against Arizona Cardinals has actually been a motivating factor for him to get back the starting position.
The quarterback gave these comments on Wednesday, December 05, 2012, after he was named the starting quarterback by Jets head coach Rex Ryan for Week 14 tie on Sunday, December, 09.
Sanchez was benched during the third quarter of last week’s game and was replaced by third-tier quarterback Greg McElroy.
All three quarterbacks including Tim Tebow stood on the practice field alongside each other as Ryan announced the news.
Despite experiencing three days of agony of not being the starter, Sanchez understands that it is a lesson that hopefully will have a positive effect on his performance. Sanchez said:
"It was probably the worst and best experience of my life. . . As much as you disagree with the decision (on Sunday) -- you never want to come out of a game -- I know where he's coming from because I understand everyone needs to be held accountable, myself
included,"
Sanchez pointed out that Ryan took time to take the decision so as to give the player a message for trying to get things right.
There is certainly a dare need to rectify all those mistakes Sanchez has made during the 2012 season. The quarterback has thrown a total of 18 turnovers this season, five of them coming in last two weeks. Giving analyses of his recent debacles, Sanchez said:
"I'm disappointed because I let a lot of people down. You let a lot of teammates down when you play like that. That never feels good. This kind of thing affects people's lives and careers. It's not just, 'Oh, man, bummer.' It's not like that. This is serious."
Ryan has emphasised that he would no longer allow the quarterback to get away after committing costly mistakes.
The coach’s decision to back Sanchez again for the starting position has come against the will of fans who desperately want to see McElroy getting the snaps.
