New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez believes there is no threat to his starting position – NFL News
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been under scrutiny for the poor play he has shown this season. With rumours doing the rounds that backup quarterback Tim Tebow is about to take over the starting position, Sanchez has reiterated that he has no
threat.
After practice session on Thursday, October 04, 2012, both Sanchez and Tebow talked with the reporters in the locker room and gave the stance that there was no change of guard at quarterback. Sanchez said:
"I don't feel threatened to lose my job at all. It's no different, whether it's Tim or Mark (Brunell) or Kellen (Clemens). It doesn't change. I'm really not worried at all."
Sanchez referred to his two previous backups, Clemens and Brunell, but Tebow is way different from both of them.
Tebow is coming off a staggering season with Denver Broncos and has been the fans’ favourite since his arrival in New York.
Moreover, Sanchez has never underperformed like this in his entire career. He currently has 49.2% completion rate which is the lowest in the league.
Things are looking even worse as Sanchez will now have to work with a very young line-up of wide receivers after the season-ending knee injury to wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
With the offence failing to score even a single point in the Jets’ 34-0 loss against San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, Sanchez will now face his toughest opponent yet as Jets play Houston Texans, who have one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Sanchez will have support of wide receiver Jeremy Kerley and Chaz Schilens in their Week 5 game on Monday, October 08, 2012, as rookie receiver Stephen Hill is also unavailable due to hamstring injury.
The inexperience of the wide receiving corps and tight end might become a huge burden for Sanchez who has played 51 games, more than the entire group of wide receivers and tight ends on the roster. Sanchez is worried by this situation. He said:
"I've been in situations like this before. I'm confident I can handle it, and there's only one way in my mind to go about it -- and that's really to attack it."
