New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez not worried about Santonio Holmes’ comments – NFL News
It is hard for players to deal with media and it gets even harder especially if you have a fellow teammate like wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
One has to appreciate the way New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez handles media and gives appropriate remarks about Holmes.
Talking to the NFL Network on Monday, July 30, 2012, Sanchez gave soothing remarks when asked about his take on the comments made by Holmes about the Jets’ two quarterback system. Sanchez said:
"We're having a great training camp, but I think what Tone is really alluding to is that you don't want to interchange quarterbacks when somebody has a rhythm. It's not a two plays this guy, or one quarter, then second quarter the next guy, that kind of
rotation or something like that.”
Earlier this month, Holmes said that the two quarterback system does not seem to be workable in the professional league.
Sanchez’s reply seems to be quite calm as compared to the one Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan had given to Holmes’ comments.
Ryan replied in an aggressive way, saying that he had hired Holmes to be a wide receiver not to be an offensive coordinator.
Sanchez further explained what Holmes tried to say when he referred to two quarterback system. He said:
"I don't think he was talking about what we have here and the possibilities we have that which can be very positive for our team with Tim running the 'Wildcat' stuff and me running the regular offense. It kind of went a little haywire when it hit the media."
Holmes’ outspoken behaviour in front of media has made a few headlines previously.
He recently came out and said that New York Jets had made him a scapegoat for their lacklustre performance last season.
He especially pointed out Week 17 game of the 2011 season in which he had an in-huddle argument. Holmes was put on the bench for the rest of that game.
Holmes also criticised the Jets’ offensive line last season. Jets have put a 10-minute limit per week for Holmes’ media availability.
Although Sanchez has kept his cool till now, it will be interesting to see how he will cope with such analysis during the season when he will face pressure from backup quarterback Tim Tebow.
