New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez not worried by Tim Tebow’s goal-line blast – NFL News
After the successful unveiling of backup quarterback Tim Tebow in the goal-line sequence by New York Jets on Thursday, August 02, 2012, many raised question about the feasibility of applying the same technique in the regular season.
If Jets continue to play in this format, this could mean that the starting quarterback Mark Sanchez will get substituted whenever Jets reach near the goal-line.
Yet Sanchez is comfortable with that, if it happens. He insisted that he is not worried about being substituted after covering an 80-yard field. He said:
"It doesn't matter, we have to win. It's fine with me ... It's bigger than what one person on this team wants. We're in the business of winning and we have to be selfless, myself included."
Tebow showed astounding work in the training session as he had four plays, from which he scored two touchdowns and threw another.
During the practice session while the team was getting lined up for the goal-line drills, head coach Rex Ryan came forward and announced that Tebow was live.
It was the first time in the first six practice sessions of training camp that Tebow dominated the play as compared to Sanchez.
Sanchez praised Tebow saying that he will be an asset in the goal-to-go situations. He reiterated that he will play to whatever extent the coach wants. He said:
"We've got to get in the end zone. I don't care. Whatever we have to do and coach Sparano is going to be the judge there on what exactly he wants. But if that's what he wants and that's what puts it in the end zone, fine. We'll drive it 99 yards and he can
run it in. It doesn't matter.”
Ryan showed his pleasure watching Tebow making good progress. He said that it was Tebow’s best day in the camp so far.
Tebow has previous experience of playing in the same type of situations when he was at University of Florida.
Sanchez has the reputation of being disciplined in front of media, so his comments do not come as a surprise to anyone.
