New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez to get back his starting quarterback spot in Week 17 – NFL News
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been named the starter for Week 17 game to be played against Buffalo Bills on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Jets head coach Rex Ryan made the announcement on Thursday, December, 27.
The decision has come as quarterback Greg McElroy is unavailable for the season finale after being diagnosed with a concussion during this week.
Meanwhile, backup quarterback Tim Tebow was again not given the chance to play as a starter and it will likely not happen again as the player has been linked with a move away from the Gang Green during the offseason.
It seemed sensible for Jets head coach Rex Ryan to start with Tebow as the Gang Green is already out of the playoff race and can try and test different players available on the roster.
Ryan explained that the reason behind returning to Sanchez was that the quarterback had more reps during the week and the player also had a good record against Bills. Ryan said:
"Obviously, Tim isn't happy with it, as you'd expect. I'm sure there's a lot of frustration there, and I completely understand… When you look at the circumstances we're in, I think without question, this is the right decision.”
Even though Tebow has been sidelined when it comes to getting the starting position for the second time in 10 days, the player has remained silent as always about his future with the team. Tebow said:
"Obviously, I'm a competitor and I want to play, but I understand his decision and I let him know I'll do whatever I can to help the team… No, I'm not numb, I still have emotions and feelings, so I'm not numb at all."
On the other hand, Sanchez said he was surprised on getting starting position back quite early. He said:
"Things totally flipped, it's a good example of how the league works. You're one play away as a backup, so you have to be ready."
Looking at the current circumstances, it looks as if Tebow might be counting his days at Jets and will be eager to get the starting position somewhere else.
