New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has reportedly refused to play wildcat – NFL News
The anger of New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow has reached its threshold as the player reportedly refused the coaching staff to play in the wildcat formation during the team’s 17-27 loss against San Diego Chargers in Week 16 on
Sunday, December 23, 2012.
Tebow was active for the game alongside quarterback Mark Sanchez, but both players did not get a single snap during the game. Tebow is also reported to have refused the team to practice the wildcat package during the week.
Moreover, Jets did have the wildcat package on the field during the game with wide receiver Jeremy Kerley running the plays.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan spoke about the wildcat package after the game and said that the team used Kerley as a surprise element. Ryan said:
"I also wanted to give Kerley a shot at running some Wildcat things. We knew they wouldn't expect him to throw the ball, and that was the case."
Tebow has shown his frustration since he was not made the starter for Week 16. Third-string McElroy surpassed both Sanchez and Tebow to become the starter for the game.
Ryan has announced that McElroy will remain the starter which has further aggravated the situation between Tebow and Jets.
Tebow has not been able to get sufficient number of snaps ever since he has joined the team in offseason this year. Tebow looked stern after the game while confronting the media. Tebow said:
"It's been disappointing, obviously (the season) didn't go as we thought, as I had hoped, but sometimes in life you have that. Sometimes you have setbacks and you have to look at them as an opportunity to step back up and keep working
and figure out what to do... I believe in my God-given ability to play this game of football and I think I can play it for a long time.”
Rumours have been flying all over the media that Tebow is likely to end up in his home town of Jacksonville next to play for Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2013 season.
