New York Jets’ quarterback Tim Tebow leads the first-team for a short period in camp – NFL News
New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow spent a brief time with the first team as he took a few reps leading the offensive line on Wednesday.
Tebow got the opportunity to play in 11-on-11s after Mark Sanchez had five plays in the same format.
Tebow had two plays. In the first attempt, he had a long incomplete throw to wide receiver Eron Riley. In the second play, Tebow went perfect as he threw to receiver Patrick Turner who caught it and deflected cornerback Antonio Cromartie
for a 60-yard touchdown.
Although the second play was amazing, Tebow expressed little pleasure talking about it. Talking to The Star-Ledger, Tebow said:
"It was just two more plays. Try to execute and do your job like any other play."
Tebow and the first team offence went against the first team defence during the third down period.
Head Coach Rex Ryan gave the reason behind Tebow’s play in the first-team that starter quarterback Mark Sanchez had a great time in the third down period throughout the session.
So it was obvious for Ryan to give Tebow the chance to spend some time with the first-team.
Ryan reiterated that Tebow must practise to throw the ball out of its hand more quickly. Ryan said:
"In that period, you've got to get that ball out of your hand quicker. Sometimes with someone like Tim, and Ben Roethlisberger, some of those bigger quarterbacks, they think they can hold the ball longer. We're trying to get the ball off
of Tim's hands faster, and he keeps working on it."
Coach Ryan was asked if Tebow would get a chance to do the same against Cinncinati Bengals in the season opener, he replied smoothly by saying that he doubted that would be the case.
Meanwhile, Tebow praised Turner for his outstanding run and said:
"He did a great job, was pretty open. Making someone miss in something like that, you have a chance to have a really big play."
