New York Jets re-sign offensive linebacker Bryan Thomas two days after releasing him – NFL News
Offensive linebacker Bryan Thomas did not spend a huge amount of time being without job as New York Jets brought him back on Monday, September 24, 2012, just two days after releasing him.
Thomas had been the longest serving player for Jets before he was cut on Saturday, September 22. Talking to the Associated Press about his response on being cut, Thomas said:
"I can't hold any animosity. Like I said, it's a business. My main focus is getting back on the field and helping this team. At first, was I angry? Yeah. Because this is a job. This is what I love, this is what I've done all my life."
Thomas, 33, is hoping that his return will not limit his vision for the team. The linebacker was not at all happy on hearing the news of having to leave the team he had played for 11 seasons.
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Rex Ryan explained Thomas that the decision had been taken for in the interest of the team.
The linebacker watched the Jets’ Week 3 game against Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 23, sitting at home. Then, a chain of events took him back to the Jets locker room and practice field on Monday.
Jets evaluated cornerback Donnie Fletcher, who has been part of the practice squad, and made the decision to cut him in favour of Thomas.
Apart from releasing Fletcher, Jets also made several other cuts on Monday, releasing offensive tackle Dennis Landolt and defensive lineman Marcus Dixon.
Also, alongside Thomas, Jets re-signed wide receiver Patrick Turner who was released on September 11.
Jets’ decision to get back two offensive players comes at a time when they are facing possibility of not having their star cornerback Darrelle Revis for a considerable span.
Thomas is happy to return to the franchise he loves and is now aiming to end his career with the Gang Green. Thomas carried on and said:
"I've been a Jet for 11 years. I wouldn't want to play for anybody else, no other organization. I love this organization. I've been here since I was a 21-year-old kid. This is where I always wanted to be and this is where I want to stay. I want to retire
as a Jet.”
