New York Jets refuse to shut doors on Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning-NFL News
It seems that the New York Jets cannot just think of an opportunity to improve their line-up without the quarterback, Peyton Manning, as they continue to refuse shutting the doors on the player if he becomes a free agent.
Despite calling Mark Sanchez to be their quarterback at present and for the future, Jets’ managers are certainly interested in exploring options on pursuing Manning’s signing.
Peyton’s younger brother, Eli Manning, is a quarterback at the New York Giants, and if the player is taken on board by Jets, both Manning brothers will be in the same city playing for two different sides.
Jets’ head coach, Rex Ryan, said of the choice of bringing another Manning to New York:
"First off, Peyton is under contract with a different team so I can't talk about him specifically."
He continued:
"But with our organisation, we will look at everyone. There is a list of 10 free-agent quarterbacks that I have looked at and the draft guys that I have looked at. In my opinion, we have the best corner [Darrelle Revis] in the history of football along with
Deion Sanders and we are still looking at a million corners. We have a great group of corners but that doesn't mean we are not going to do our due diligence and look at every possibility regardless of the position."
This is second time that Jets have explicitly shown interest in signing Peyton.
A month earlier, rumours hit the market that Jets were exploring the opportunity of targeting Peyton.
Later, following the reports of a communication breakthrough between the player and his employer, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, the rumours died without any clarification from Jets.
Once again, Jets have outlined their priority of capitalising on all the opportunities including Peyton Manning’s signing to strengthen the squad.
Jets’ general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, has echoed the ambitions of the head coach to strengthening the offensive unit and in the pursuit if they need to bring in Colts’ QB, they will go for him.
Tannenbaum called it to be his fiduciary duty to look into new opportunities as and when they come by.
It is pertinent to mention that Peyton Manning has become a spotlight for many teams since the speculations about the player’s departure from the Indianapolis Colts have started gaining firm grounds.
Besides Jets, the Miami Dolphins have hoped that signing of the player becomes a reality for them in the future.
More recently, Dolphins’ fans have urged the team to pursue Manning. They have launched a purpose-developed website and advertising campaign to exert an influence on the team management to go for the player as soon as he becomes free agency.
The player himself has not spoken of his interest about joining a potential team in case of his release by Colts.
