New York Jets release linebacker Aaron Maybin, place cornerback Isaiah Trufant on IR – NFL News
New York Jets made some major reshuffling on their roster on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, as they waived cornerback Aaron Maybin and put cornerback Isaiah Trufant on the injured reserve (IR) list.
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum made the announcement. Maybin has not been stopping the run this season and his role in the team has gone through a massive reduction.
Head coach Rex Ryan had big words for Maybin during the offseason and expected him to become the team’s top pass rusher this season. However, things went down the hill as Maybin managed to get just one tackle after taking 119 defensive snaps in eight games
this season.
Maybin was acquired by Jets last season after he was released by Buffalo Bills. He was signed for a one-year, $1 million contract.
The linebacker had an outstanding first season with the Jets as he got six sacks, the most by any Jets player in the 2011 season.
On the other hand, Trufant had most of his playing time in the special teams. He got a knee injury during Week 10 game against Seattle Seahawks.
The cornerback has been in and out of the field throughout his career and started just one game for the team.
The release of Maybin comes at a time when the team is looking to find a winning formula that can end their three-game losing streak. Talking to media on Monday, November 12, Ryan said:
“This team wants to win in the absolute worst way. We haven’t been getting it done, but we also know that there’s not a magic play, there are no magic words or circumstances that are going to get it done. It has to be through hard work and getting better
and making small steps. Whatever it takes. We’re going to get this done or die trying. That’s how we’ll approach it.”
Maybin was drafted as an 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft. It is reported in the media that Jets waived Maybin in order to get the roster spot for newly signed running back Kahlil Bell, who was released by Chicago Bears a few weeks ago.
