New York Jets running back Shonn Greene backs out of comments about quarterback position – NFL News
New York Jets running back Shonn Greene has been in the limelight recently due to the comments he made about starting quarterback position. Greene gave clarification about that statement on Thursday, November 15, 2012 saying that he had no intent to criticise
his teammate.
In an interview with Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday, November 14, Greene was quoted as saying that even though he felt bad for starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, the Jets needed to make some changes in order to get victories in their bag.
The running back came forward next day and asserted that his comments were quoted out of context in that article. Greene said:
"What I said was, we're 3-6 and things need to change. I said nothing about changing quarterback, nothing about any single person on this team. I've been here four years. I've never once said anything about anybody on this team."
The reporter who wrote that story elucidated his side and tweeted on Thursday night that his article and the information was 100% correct.
When Jets head coach Rex Ryan was asked earlier about this matter, he blatantly said that Greene would come forward and sort the issue by himself.
This issue has appeared at a time when Jets are encircled with controversies. Only a day before, some players of the team were anonymously quoted in a New York Daily News article in which they severely criticised backup quarterback Tim Tebow.
Green went on to say that reporters should emphasise more on the team’s performance on the field rather that off it. He said:
"First you get yesterday and now today with me and then it's just like, c'mon, really? We just want to play football. The article was supposed to be on me. It was supposed to be a feature on me and where I'm at right now. And how it turned into me saying
this about this person and that person, I don't know."
Greene also reiterated that there are no lingering problems between him and Sanchez and he has contacted the quarterback to settle down the dust.
