New York Jets season analysis till Week 15 of the 2012 season – NFL Feature Part 4
In this last part of the season analysis of the New York Jets performance till Week 15 of the 2012 season, we will look into games played in Week 13, 14, and 15 of the regular season.
Jets were lingering with a 4-7 record after Week 12. The hopes of getting into the postseason were diminishing every week and the task was getting harder and harder.
Questions were starting to rise about the quarterback situation and whether the options for the position were good enough to take the team to the next level.
The fans were also fed up at that point of time by not watching their favourite Tim Tebow on the field. The backup quarterback was not utilized by Jets head coach Rex Ryan even though starter Mark Sanchez failed to provide the team with good output.
Week 13: Arizona Cardinals
Jets entered Week 13 with a must-win situation in order to qualify for the playoffs and got an unlikely hero to achieve that feat.
Ryan finally had enough of Sanchez as he replaced the player with third-string quarterback Greg McElroy and he did not disappoint.
McElroy got the game-winning points in his first play as he threw a one-yard pass to tight end Jeff Cumberland at the start of the final quarter. He finished the game with five of seven for 29 yards and a score.
Tebow remained inactive due to rib injury. Sanchez threw three interceptions after which he got benched.
The defence gave a much better performance as compared to last week as they kept Cardinals offence from scoring a touchdown.
Week 14: Jacksonville Jaguars
Jets kept their postseason hopes alive as they thumped struggling Jacksonville Jaguars 17-10.
The running game put up a good show for Jets as both running backs Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell got their names on the scoring sheet.
Powell carried the ball 19 times for 78 yards while Greene ran for 77 rushing yards on 20 carries.
The passing game hardly had an influence on the outcome of the game. Sanchez continued his diminishing run of form. He completed 12 of 19 for 111 yards without scoring a touchdown.
The defence forced Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne to throw two interceptions. Running back Montell Owens carried the ball 14 times for 91 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Week 15: Tennessee Titans
The hopes of qualifying for the playoffs were thrashed in Week 15 as Jets got their eighth loss of the season as they got a 10-14 defeat against Tennessee Titans.
Titans quarterback Jake Locker got his first rushing touchdown of the season. Running back Chris Johnson also got a tremendous 94-yard run to the end zone to give Titans lead early in the second quarter.
Johnson ran 21 times for 122 yards with the average of 5.8 yards per carry.
Mark Sanchez threw four interceptions and looked even worse than most of the backup quarterbacks in the league. He put up a meagre 13 of 28 for 131 yards and a score.
Jets defence tried to keep Titans under close guards, but they did not have the support of the offence who failed to get good numbers on the score sheet.
All in all, it has been a frustrating season for Jets who had high hopes, but injuries and poor quarterback play have led to the down fall of the team.
