New York Jets’ starters participate in a leadership seminar – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan saw some rough times relating to players’ attitude last season. Therefore, he sneaked in the opportunity to send his 19 starters to New Jersey on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, to attend the seminar on the topic of leadership.
Ryan and the rest of the coaching staff had a hands-on experience of the training as they too attended the seminar back in May.
They had a great experience and learned a lot from it. They decided that it would be helpful for the players as well.
A total of 19 players went to participate in the seminar conference while the rest of the players practiced on the Jets practice field.
The Jets’ participants include Mark Sanchez, Santonio Holmes, Tim Tebow, Antonio Cromartie, Darrelle Revis and others. After the practice session, Ryan talked about the seminar and said:
"We just had a great experience as a coaching staff, and I'm hoping the players have the same kind of experience we had. . . It was great. It was something I felt all of us gained some things out of. You saw a lot about each other. I thought it was good."
Jets’ first team will not participate in the fourth and final preseason game. Therefore they got some spare time to get some other type of training.
Ryan declined to give any details about the sessions of the seminar and also about the drills being carried out by the players during those sessions.
Jets second team will get the opportunity to start on Thursday against Philadelphia Eagles. Ryan looks to make the players a united unit.
Ryan acknowledges the fact that he failed to take the team together during the last season as Jets went through a lot of conflicts between their major players.
One of the examples is the tussle between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
Ryan has not yet announced the captains of the teams as he had a terrible experience last season by making Holmes the captain.
Jets will have to be more disciplined, especially in the offensive side, in order to make any progress after a miserable preseason.
