New York Jets takes on Arizona Cardinals in Week 13 – NFL Preview
New York Jets will host a team going through similar fortunes as they face beleaguered Arizona Cardinals in Week 13 on Sunday, December 02, 2012, at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Both teams are currently standing with a 4-7 record with little or no hopes for qualifying for the playoffs.
This could be the opportunity for Jets to start winning games as this contest will be the start of an easy schedule for them.
Meanwhile, it has been a tale of two halves for the Cardinals this season. After winning four games in a row at the start of the season, the team has lost their least seven games.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan still thinks that his team has a chance for reaching the postseason. Giving his views about playing against Cardinals, Ryan said:
“I think both teams record-wise, we feel we’re a better football team than our record indicates, and I’m sure they do as well. They should feel that way. Both teams are hungry for a win, and I think there probably are some similarities there. You want to
play good defence and have the ability to run the football and add some weapons offensively.”
However, looking at their forgettable performance in Week 12 against New England Patriots, things seem to look the other way round.
The Gang Green got a despicable 19-49 thrashing by Patriots as they allowed as many as 35 points in the second quarter to give the game away at the end of first half.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez will be hoping to have a fairly better game. The quarterback has been facing problems in keeping the ball of late. Sanchez has given away five fumbles this season.
However, things are unlikely to get easier for Sanchez and company as the Cardinals defence is ranked fourth in the National Football League (NFL) in terms of passes allowed and intercepted.
Cardinals will again start with their rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley in place of lacklustre John Skelton and injured Kevin Kolb. Kolb is likely to return in coming weeks, but is not yet game fit. Talking about Kolb’s return, Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt
said:
"He isn't going to get in the game until we are sure that he can take a hit. With what happened with him, you just have to make sure that he's cleared to do that."
Lindley has been struggling to keep pace with the fast action of the league. During last week’s 17-31 defeat against St. Louis Rams, the rookie threw four interceptions and finished the game with 312 yards.
Cardinals will be without their veteran center Lyle Sendlein who is out for the rest of the season with torn MCL.
