New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller likely to return in Week 6 game – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan indicated during a news conference on Tuesday, October 09, 2012, that tight end Dustin Keller might be ready to play in their Week 6 game against Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Ryan was talking to the media via conference call. He said that there is a great chance that Keller will be able to get fully fit before the game. Ryan said:
"I'm encouraged. When I talked to Dustin last, he felt he was going to be able to go this week, so I think that will give us a huge boost. There's no question that it's going to be great to get Dustin back. You're talking about one of the better receiving
tight ends in football."
Keller’s return will give a big boost to Jets offensive that has struggled massively in their last three games, providing a total of only two touchdowns during that period.
The coach expressed his concern about the rest of players, who got injuries during the Jets’ Week 5 23-17 loss against Houston Texans on Monday, October 08.
Jets’ long injury list includes wide receiver Clyde Gates, nose tackle Kenrick Ellis, centre Nick Mangold and linebacker Josh Mauga.
Mauga has reportedly torn his pectoral muscle which will likely end his season. Meanwhile, Mangold sprained his ankle during the game and will go through MRI later on Tuesday. According to Ryan, Ellis will miss at least two weeks due to MCL sprain.
He emphasised on the fact that backup players have to bring out their best in such emergency situations. Ryan said:
“I think next man has to step up. I think you're seeing Jeremy Kerley step up. There's a guy who had about 90 yards receiving. Then I think Chaz [Schilens] is a young man, we brought him in, to be a physical presence in the running game.”
Jets have added Jason Hill last week to support their downtrodden wide receiving corps. Although he played some part of the game on Monday, Sanchez did not look very comfortable throwing to his new receiver.
