New York Jets under consideration for featuring on HBO's reality show Hard Knocks - NFL News
New York Jets have enough media attention as it is after their last season bust and it increased to an even greater level when the franchise traded to bring in quarterback, Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos in the offseason.
However, the media circus surrounding the Jets could go up a notch if HBO’s plans to feature them in their newest season of ‘Hard Knocks’ go ahead.
According to the New York Daily News the Jets remain in the list of the final few teams being considered by the channel to feature on the show.
Interest from HBO is not surprising as the team makes for a great storyline for the Hard Knocks series with the arrival of Tim Tebow in addition to coach, Rex Ryan’s famous bluster in front of the press undoubtedly drawing big ratings.
Franchise owner, Woody Johnson had expressed interest in doing the show once again but coach, Rex Ryan and general manager, Mike Tannenbaum have expressed reservations over the increased media glare during the training camp.
It seems unlikely that the franchise will agree to the show as it will be in their best interests to keep a low profile and prepare without distractions for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The Jets were featured on the show during their 2010 training camp and that series garnered the highest ratings for the programme in its history.
The Jets had ended the 2009-10 season by going on a surprising run to the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship game and were just one step away from reaching the Super Bowl.
In 2011-12 though things could not have been more different as locker room squabbles and internal problems led to a complete collapse of the team’s challenge for the playoffs as they ended up with a poor 8-8 record.
Jets players publicly questioned the leadership of quarterback, Mark Sanchez, while wide receiver, Santonio Holmes publicly feuded with the quarterback.
With the team finally showing a semblance of stability it can become a big mistake for the Jets to jeopardise that by agreeing to the show.
Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars are two other teams rumoured to be under consideration for the show.
