New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills preview: Jets want third straight win
Since losing their season opener to the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC East-leading New York Jets have bounced back with two consecutive wins against divisional opponents. The Jets will be looking to make it
three for three in the division as they look to walk into Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday in Buffalo and come away with a win over the Bills.
How they match up
The Jets started the season as one of the teams to pay attention to as potential contenders for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Last season the Jets boasted the league's best defence and came into this season
with high expectations that they would repeat as the league's most dominant defensive team.
Pre-season holdout, Darrelle Revis, has recently been sidelined with a hamstring injury and is questionable agianst the Bills. Defensive tackle Kris Jenkins went down in week one and tore his ACL, putting
him out for the season. The Jets may get a boost to their linebacking core with the inclusion of Calvin Pace who is slated to return after missing the first three weeks due to injury.
The Jets haven't yet put up the type of defensive numbers that they did last season, but no rusher has run for over 100 yards against them so far this season and don't look to Buffalo running back Marshawn
Lynch to break that trend.
With quarterback Trent Edwards recently picked up off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ryan Fitzpatrick is now the man behind centre who will be expected to lead the Bills on offence and try to turn
their season around. Wide receiver Lee Evans is the Bills lead target, but the Jets secondary will likely key on him. Look for deep threat Roscoe Parrish to open up the field and extend the defence.
After having an abysmal opening game on offence where the Ravens completely dominated time of possession the Jets offence has bounced back in a big way led by second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez. Although
he has yet to throw for over 300 yards in a game, Sanchez has been efficient with his passes and has thrown three touchdowns in each of the last two games. More important in the eyes of the Jets offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, is the fact that
in three games Sanchez has yet to throw an interception. With a full season under his belt, Sanchez is beginning to show signs of maturity and it is reflected in his on-field decision making.
The Jets have yet to have a rusher run for 100 yards in a game as Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson continue to share the load, but the Bills have the NFL's sixth worst run defence so that could change.
What to expect
The Bills are 0-3 and need to turn their season around fast. The Jets lead the division with a 2-1 record and are looking to be among the top in the AFC. As Jets coach Rex Ryan has said, he expects to
win every game, and he will bring his Jets into Buffalo looking for nothing less than a 'W'.
With the Bills porous run defence the Jets can expect to move the ball on the ground and eat up a lot of clock. With a well-rested Jets defence the Bills will stand no chance. Jets win 27-10.
