New York Jets vs Green Bay Packers - Preview
The Jets would try to make it 6-1 when they face Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the New Meadowlands Stadium. Jets have been amazing this season but Packers won’t just roll over. The Jets have a fight on their hand.
The two quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers for Green Bay and Mark Sanchez for New York, are both strong. Rodgers in particular has been exceptional. In the 7 games so far that Green Bay have played, Rodgers was the top passer in all but two games. Sanchez was the
top passer in only one but the Jets have still continued winning. The catch is the defence.
Packers have not been able to defend Rodgers as well as they would have wanted to. That would be a serious problem for them against Jets because New York love sacking the quarterback. Because Rodgers has been in greater pressure, he has been making more
mistakes. He has scored 12 touchdowns for the Packers, compared to 9 by Sanchez, but he has also thrown 7 more interceptions than Sanchez.
Against Miami and Washington, the defence had sacked Rodgers a total of 9 times in two games. But, against the Vikings, the Packers were able to keep Rodgers well protected from the sack and it showed. Sanchez threw 295 yards with two touchdowns. Packers
lost against Miami and Washington but were able to defeat Minnesota.
Rodgers and his wide receivers could stand to be a little more synchronized. They go through stages of strong play together and then suddenly start to miss. Packers have lost running back, Ryan Grant for the rest of the season and since then they have had
to rely more strongly on the pass. Their opponents have picked up on it and have been trying to make life harder for Rodgers. Cornerback Darrelle Revis would be taking up that task. Revis is coming back from a hamstring injury. He said that he was feeling
a 100% and that he is ready for the challenge that Packers present.
“Their passing game is amazing”, said Revis. He added that Rodgers was one of the best quarterbacks in the league and was supported by some very good wide receivers. The quarterback and cornerback have a relationship of mutual respect. Regarding Revis’ return
this Sunday, Rodgers said that he would have an impact on the game regardless if he was 100% fit or not. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie also believes that Revis would give the Jets an edge over Packers. “It helps out a lot having him back 100 percent”, Cromartie
said. He maintained that now they would focus on going out on the field and keeping the passing game under control.
Jets' coach, Rex Ryan is of the view that having Cromartie and Revis on the field opens up the possibility for New York to apply pressure on Rodgers and come out with a sack or two.
The Packers have a better passing game than the Jets but Jets more than make up for it in the run. New York have the second best running game in the league right now and LaDainian Tomlinson is their man with Shonn Greene backing him up. Tomlinson has been
the top rusher in every single one of New York’s games this season. In 92 carries, he has covered 490 yards with 5.3 yards per attempt average. That puts him in rank with the best running backs in the league. Green Bay aren't all that good when it comes to
stopping the rush.
The two teams compliment each other’s weaknesses but New York have the overall advantage. Jets have the ability to get to the quarterback and Packers have had trouble protecting him. Jets can rush while rush is the weakest part of Green Bay’s otherwise strong
defence. Packers can pass the ball while Jets have a poor record of stopping the pass.
Green Bay are a strong team but Jets are the favourites for Sunday.
