New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins – NFL Week 17: Preview
The New York Jets move to Miami this week to meet the Miami Dolphins in the final game of the season.
This season has brought in a lot of excitement and controversies for the Jets who are still trying to recover from the embarrassing loss to the New York Giants last weekend. While the Miami Dolphins who have their hopes of reaching
the playoffs ended look to avoiding ending up last in AFC East.
The Jets who have a lot to boast about in recent couple of Weeks are fuelled by the need to win the Super Bowl this time as their coach Rex Ryan claimed of. At 8-7, they look pretty stronger than the Bills who are way behind them
at 5-10. However, a win over the Buffalo Bills recently followed by a close fight with the New England Patriots which they lost 27-24, definitely has them in the equation to expect a victory.
The Jets though would never be seen compromising on this game. They are driven by the need to reach the playoffs as their coach has recently boasted a lot about. The Jets need in a lot of help from other teams to reach this target.
Apart from winning this weekend, they need the Cincinnati to lose to Baltimore Ravens, the Tennessee to lose to Houston Texans and have either the Denver Broncos or the Oakland Raiders lose.
Mark Sanchez has failed to deliver recently and that has been the focus of a lot of talks this week. The 29-14 loss to the Giants was the second big loss to the Jets and as expected all the blame fell on the quarterback and the
offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. There were even calls to fire Brian. However Ryan’s support had all the critics silenced. Ryan confirmed his confidence in both of his men saying that he had full confidence in all of his coaches and went to the
extent of saying that he would prefer the likes of Peyton Manning to Sanchez.
Sanchez recently took to his defence saying that everyone was aware of the hard work he does. However, Sanchez had to so a lot more than just gaining the support of the coach. His recent performance has indeed fallen and in the
last game, he was guilty of three turnovers and completed just 30 of 59 passes. So this final game is probably the last chance he has to deliver. Sanchez recognizes the need of being consistent.
"It's a steady improvement and it does take time, but I'm trying to expedite that process and move things along as swiftly as possible. It's a process but I'm learning a lot on the fly.” Sanchez said.
Miami’s Matt Moore on the other hand has shown a lot of improvement lately. He is known for completing around 60 percent of his passes and has gone for 2375 yards this season with 15 touchdowns. In the last game against the New
England Patriots, Moore played pretty well completing 17 of 33 passes for 294 yards with three touchdowns. That performance though it failed to earn the Dolphins a win reflects very much on his latest improvement.
The other person the Dolphins have to rely on is Reggie Bush who finished with 113 yards in the last game. With 1086 yards this season to his credit, he may pose a challenge to the Jets.
So the Jets have a last chance in this game to make it to the playoffs and will they be able to maintain their tall claims as made by Ryan will be determined on Sunday.
