New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes likely out for the season – NFL News
After losing their best player in the defensive team, New York Jets are now facing the possibility of losing their top offensive player as their wide receiver is reported to remain out for the rest of the season.
According to various media reports, Holmes will be out for the remainder of the season because of Lisfranc injury that he sustained in the Jets’ Week 4 game against San Francisco 49es on Sunday, September 30, 2012, which they lost miserably by 34-0.
Holmes went through various diagnostic tests on Tuesday, October 02. The reports of those tests are being analysed by a number of specialist doctors. The final decision on his foot injury will likely be determined by Wednesday, October 03.
Holmes’ initial X–rays came out negative. Jets head coach Rex Ryan said about Holmes’ return:
"I'm not sure how many weeks he'll be out, the real extent of the injury. We just know the X-rays were negative. That's good news. Obviously, it looks doubtful for this week."
It will be a disaster for Jets to lose their best playmaker in the offensive line-up. Jets lost their cornerback Darrelle Revis last month due to a season-ending knee injury.
Losing Holmes will greatly affect the offensive output of Jets who failed to score even a point in their last game.
Holmes was aiming to go further towards the end zone in the fourth quarter of the Jets game against 49ers. His left foot got stuck on the ground injuring on the spot.
With absence of Holmes almost certain, Jets will have to make some additions in the wide receiving corps.
Jets currently have the option of starting with wide receivers Jeremy Kerley and Chaz Schilens as rookie receiver Stephen Hill remained out of their Week 4 game. They will likely get services of wide receiver Patrick Turner, who was released by them on October
02.
