New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes ready to take on Miami Dolphins defensive backs – NFL News
After failing to show impressive performance against Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is upbeat about countering the defensive backs of Miami Dolphins in Week 3 game on Sunday.
New York Jets have shown both faces of their offensive team during the starting two games of the season.
The offence looked outstanding in the season opener as they thrashed Buffalo Bills 48-28, but they were miserable in the 10-27 loss against Steelers in Week 2.
The Wide receiving corps was especially lacklustre last week, completing 10 out of 27 passes against a defence fighting with injuries.
Holmes believes playing against Dolphins will be a completely different ball game as they have a revamped defence without experience of playing with the Jets wildcat offence.
Talking to the ESPN on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, Holmes said:
"With our skills and our speed, we should really take advantage of those guys,"
Dolphins have made many modifications in their secondary coming into this season. They will be without safety Yeremiah Bell after cutting the veteran in the offseason, who later joined Jets. Also, Jets have traded cornerback Vontae Davis during the preseason.
Dolphins do look very thin at safety, especially with likes of Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons being the starters for the team.
Both players do not have much experience in the league and might struggle this season. Holmes carried on and said:
"We'd like to get an upper edge and advantage against those guys early, so now they have to come out and defend us and play us in a respectable manner."
Holmes’ comments have been surprisingly limited to on-field talks only during the last few weeks. This comes in strike contrast to his track record of making surprising revelations during his media talks.
Jets might be hoping to have a similar kind of change of attitude from Holmes on the field.
