New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes remains moderate after Week 1 victory – NFL News
Whenever New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes gets in front of media, it usually means that some spicy headlines are in the making.
Contrary to what was expected, Holmes held up his emotions on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, getting a weekly dose of media coverage. He looked like a player talking within certain guidelines.
Holmes was asked whether the Jets offence had a positive effect of Tebow’s wildcat scheme. He said:
"We run the plays coach Sparano calls, and we try to do them to perfection. That’s our focus. Whatever plays our offensive coordinator calls for us, it’s our job to go out and execute.”
The comments seem to be in complete contrast to what Holmes has been talking previously. Only last week, he revealed that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had been rattled by addition of Tim Tebow.
During the offseason, Holmes also said that Tebow's addition would interrupt Sanchez’s rhythm.
Holmes has always been known for his controversial comments in front of media. His vocal behaviour forced Jets to limit his weekly media exposure.
Holmes also commented on a scoring opportunity he got during the eason opener. He dived to get the ball in the end zone, and although it looked that he fell into ground on his feet, the replay showed that his shoulder touched the ground first. He said:
"Most people probably wouldn’t have thought twice to get the back foot down, but I know that’s where all the money is made is to get both feet down in the back of the end zone."
Holmes also answered a few other questions. On top of those was the game on Sunday, September 12, in which he will face his former team Pittsburgh Steelers.
The wide receiver got a bad taste in his mouth on his departure from Steelers as they kicked him out, even though he had the best career of his season, statistically, before being traded. However, Holmes did not make much fuss about the game and told that
he was concentrating on his game plan.
