New York Knicks acquire James White for one year – NBA Update
After playing in the Italian league for the past two years, James White, a former NBA player, has decided to return back to the States. On Wednesday, he agreed to sign a one year deal with the New York Knicks.
Daniel Curtin who has been representing White via Three Eye Sports agency, revealed the details of the agreement, which has a financial value of veteran`s minimum $1.4 million.
"He's excited about it," Curtin said. "He's going to have a chance to play. He's come a long way since his earlier NBA stint. I think it's a great opportunity for him, especially with the personnel he'll be playing
with. He has some elite intangibles."
White was part of the San Antonio Spurs team which lifted an NBA Championship back in 2007 and after a short span in Turkey and the D-League, he signed with Houston Rockets in 2009.
However his brief tenure in the NBA was limited to only 10 games, a discouraging period which inclined him to pursue his career back in Europe.
He has spent the last two seasons playing under one year contracts with two different Italian teams. However, despite being constantly on the move; his time in Serie A has been very successful.
In his first year, White played for the Italian Dinamo Sassari and was the leading scorer of the season, holding an average of 21 points per season while mostly playing transition offense.
For the 2011 season, he joined Scavolini Pesaro and instantly took up the half court offense applied over there. White was among the top three scorers for the season, averaging 17.1 points.
Even though White had been involved in workout for several different teams in NBA since 2009, however a chance to return back only appeared only this time around.
"This is the closest that he had been," Curtin added.
International scout Kevin Wilson took notice of White`s improvement in the past two seasons and decided to bring him to the Knicks for a work out about 10 days ago.
White will be present with the Knicks team next week in Las Vegas but only to meet with his new team-mates and coaching staff who would be training for NBA` summer league.
