New York Knicks demolish the Washington Wizards 108-87: NBA Recap
J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony lifted New York Knicks to a 108-87 rout of the Washington Wizards, here at the Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony shared the team high score of 20 points; Tyson Chandler had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Raymond Felton chipped in with 11 points while Jason Kidd missed out the game due to back
spasms. The Knicks were outrebounded 32-42 by the Wizards and it is an area they will be looking to improve on.
"Every time you look up, this guy has 20 points." Walt Clyde Frazier said on Anthony.
Jordan Crawford led the Wizards with 17 points while Bradley Beal finished off with 14 points for the night, as the Wizards went down 1-13. Washington lost the ball cheaply to Knicks throughout the game and committed 17 turnovers
compared to 8.
One again the Knicks took control of the game early and then raced to victory. A.J Price made a three pointer in the early going of the first period to put the Wizards up 11-8 but the Knicks turned hot and went for a quick 8-0
run to snatch the lead on 16-11. The Wizards reduced the deficit to 15-16 before New York knocked down few shots from the three point land to go into the second quarter leading 26-17.
The Knicks rarely miss out banking on a good start, and that’s what they did tonight. They kept shooting from behind the arc and a Pablo Prigioni three pointer put them up 38-26. Ronnie Brewer nailed one in from downtown to push
their lead to 50-39. They closed the period with a 6 nil run to cement their authority over the Wizards as they went into locker room leading 57-46.
Anthony opened up the third period for the Knicks with a deuce followed by a three pointer as they went up 62-48.A Felton driving layup put them up 69-55 and a flurry of three pointers later in the period extended their lead to
86-63 as they Wizards went into the final period trailing by 65-86.
Steve Novak fired one in from beyond the arc early in the period as New York kept the momentum going. Smith made a floating jump shot to extend the Knicks advantage to 97-77 around the mid quarter mark. New York won comfortably
in the end as they cruised to a 108-87 win to rout the Wizards.
"Now that I'm here in New York, you're talking about trying to win the division, you can't lose at home."
Knicks Coach Mike Woodson commented after the win and when asked about the decision to fine San Antonio Spurs for sitting out key players in the road game against Miami Heat, he declined to express his thoughts.
"That's Pop and his team, and I gotta deal with our team," Woodson said.
