New York Knicks edge past Charlotte Bobcats 91-87: NBA Recap
Coming into Monday night, the Charlotte Bobcats had only won two games in the season, the second one coming against the New York Knicks last week.
With the same opposition in sight, the Bobcats were vying to make it two in row, but this time the Knicks avenged their loss by downing the Bobcats 91-87, to improve their record to 5-4.
But it was not an easy win for the Knicks by any stretch of imagination and they were made to work really hard for it. Bobcats fought the whole game gallantly and never at any instance allowed Knicks to run away with the show.
With less than 15 seconds to go, the game was hung in balance, with the Bobcats only behind by a point, 87-88.
It was then, when the Carmelo Anthony, who scored only 13 points in the last game against the Bobcats, jumped into action and with the help of three crucial free throws, led the Knicks to an important win.
"It was just a will to win out there tonight," Anthony said. "Shots was going in and out, we wasn't making shots, myself, Amare," Anthony said. "We shot 30-something percent from the field, so we had to grind it out on the defensive
end and then crunch time we had to make something do."
Knicks struggled with the shooting throughout and shot only 38% percent from the floor. Amar’e Stoudemire, the top scorer for Knicks had 25 points and 12 rebounds but he shot only 7 for 25 from inside the arc. Anthony (22) and
six assists was 6 for 18 from the floor. Tyson Chandler with 20 points and 13 boards was the only player who managed to find the baskets regularly (6 for 8 from the arc). Iman Shumpert had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in his second
straight start.
The real difference was the number of fouls committed by Bobcats tonight. They gave away total 40 fouls and in the end, that made a huge difference to the final outcome. Boris Diaw led the Bobcats with 19 points, 10 rebounds and
7 assists while reserve DJ White added his 15. Gerald Henderson had 14 points, and Augustin pounded 12 points.
