New York Knicks get win over Sacramento Kings thanks to some hot shooting
With both teams entering the game on losing streaks, the New York Knicks (4-8) beat the Sacramento Kings (3-7) 113-106 on Wednesday 17 November at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
The Knicks entered last night’s game on a six-game losing streak while the Kings had lost their last five.
Amar’e Stoudemire led New York to the win, finishing with 27 points and 10 rebounds while Danilo Gallinari added 27 points of his own to go along with four rebounds. Gallinari was 3-for-5
from three point range and 16-for-17 from the free throw line. Point guard Raymond Felton finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Landry Fields went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to finish with 10 points. Bench players Toney Douglas
and Wilson Chandler chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Point guard Tyreke Evans had a solid all-around game with 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Carl Landry had a near double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Beno Udrih
led all Sacramento bench players in scoring with 18 points while DeMarcus Cousins had a double-double off the bench, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Knicks looked like they were headed for another loss early in the game, when they fell behind by 15 points in the first quarter. But after going 3-for-21 to start the game, the Knicks
went 13-for-17 in the second quarter to take a 54-49 lead into the break. After entering the fourth quarter up nine points, the Kings went on a 9-0 run to close the lead to 93-90. But the Knicks went on a 9-2 run that ended with a powerful dunk by Stoudemire
to put the Kings away for good.
What they said
Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni didn’t like how his team started the game but was encouraged by how they ended it.
"We felt a little tight obviously when we started -- a little lethargic and tight," he said. "We got way behind but we fought back. We started making shots and we took off."
From late in the first quarter to early in the fourth, the Kings allowed the Knicks to connect on 76 per cent of their shots. Kings coach Paul Westphal was not impressed.
"It was indescribably bad. It's really hard to find any middle ground for us. We're looking for some consistency and it didn't happen tonight," he said.
After losing a close game to the Denver Nuggets the night before, Stoudemire was happy how his team responded.
"We have to get used to this feeling," he said. "Tonight was a night where we showed progress from the Denver game. We played well in that game. Tonight we carried it over. We have to
keep this swagger and this mentality and go on to the next one."
