New York Knicks guard Baron Davis to undergo surgery; Ruled out for a whole year – NBA Update
Recent reports of an MRI which Baron Davis underwent on Monday have revealed that the veteran player is suffering from a partial tear in his right knee to the patella tendon and has completely torn of his ACL  and medial collateral
ligaments  –  a possible career threatening injury for the veteran guard.
To recover from such a horrible injury, Davis will have to undergo surgery which will side line him for up to or more than a year according to team officials.
Davis suffered the injury in the third quarter against the Miami Heat while running a fast break. Knicks eventually went on to win the game, however the injury to Davis left them on a sad note. Players like Amare` Stoudemire were
seen with gloomy faces after the incident and had this to say after the game.
“I almost shed a tear on the court to be honest with you, Baron's such a great guy off the court, as a teammate. He's a phenomenal locker room guy and to see that, I dropped down to one knee and said a prayer while he was on the
ground. It was sad." – Stoudemire
Davis got injured without any major contact from any Miami players. His knee just buckled as he stopped for a look at the rim, leaving the 12 year veteran in agonizing pain on the floor. He had to be stretchered off the court by
the team doctors to undergo further examination.
The injury to Davis was so gruesome that every player who was present on the court at the time felt the agony for him. Many players even did not want to look at the replay of the incident being shown on the big screen.
"I didn't want to watch," Chris Bosh said. "I kind of heard the reaction and then when they were playing it back on the Jumbotron like 80 times everybody could hear the reaction of the crowd. You never want to see guys go down
like that. I just hope that everything's OK for him and he recovers well."
Interim Knicks Head Coach, Mike Woodson contemplated after the game that he appreciates the effort Davis had put in and has the utmost respect for every player who is giving him a 100%.
Davis had only returned to the line up. It took him a total of 7 weeks to return to basketball action after taking time off recovering from a herniated disk in his back. Davis had carried the responsibility of playing point guard
on this Knicks team after the ‘Big Apple’ sensation; Jeremy Lin was sidelined with a left knee injury back in March.
Never being a 100% fully fit, Davis had averaged 9.7 points in the playoffs to go along with 3.7 assists per game and had given it everything he got for the team, a respectable feat.
