New York Knicks have a star studded roster, but lack the game plan to go with it....
A look at the roster of the New York Knicks, and one fails to understand the hype surrounding the Brooklyn Nets and their new cast. Such is their strength that the Knicks need not be intimidated by any team in the NBA, let alone
the up and coming Brooklyn Nets, about star power and talent.
The Nets spent an enormous amount of money in the offseason to improve their roster and make them playoff contenders this coming season, which will be the franchises’ first in Brooklyn and the new Barclays Arena. Joe Johnson, Deron
Williams, Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace round up the starting five for Brooklyn, and many people speculated that they might overthrow the Knicks as the basketball club of New York City. But if it is just about talent and roster, the Knicks
are right up there with the Nets.
The Knicks have one of the most prolific scorers in today’s game in the form of Carmelo Anthony. Drafted in the same year as LeBron James, Anthony did for the Denver Nuggets what James did for Cleveland. He made them regular contenders
in the playoffs. However, after numerous attempts, Anthony did not feel like he was going to achieve his objectives in the NBA by sticking with the Nuggets, and was traded to the Knicks in a block buster deal. Since his arrival in New York, Anthony has rightfully
become the face of the franchise, and the person through which their offence runs.
Then the Knicks have Amar’e Stoudemire, one of the best power forwards in the league over the past decade or so. Stoudemire was a force to be reckoned with during his days with Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Together, these two
battled for the Western Conference crown on timeless occasions and made Phoenix one of the best teams in the league for a long time.
To complete the star studded front court for the Knicks, comes Tyson Chandler at the centre. Chandler was part of the Dallas Mavericks team that won the NBA championship in 2010-2011, and joined the Knicks in the season after that
as Dallas looked to hold on to cap space to tackle free agency. Last season, his first for the Knicks, Chandler won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award as well as a spot on the U.S Olympic team.
With such a star studded roster, one would think that the Knicks were set as far as talent and skills were concerned. However, the Knicks front office thought otherwise.
This offseason, the Knicks parted ways with break out point guard Jeremy Lin after the Houston Rockets gave the restricted free agent guard an offer the Knicks just could not match, considering their salary cap issues. In his place,
the Knicks got back Raymond Felton.
Felton is a rising point guard in the league, who has the potential to become a good playmaker. Along with Felton, the Knicks also signed veteran All Star and gold medal winning point guard Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks
for a three year deal. Talk about a roster upgrade.
