New York Knicks interim GM reveals the team was planning to cut down Jeremy Lin - NBA Update
New York Knicks emerging star, Jeremy Lin, who has stunned the NBA world with his outstanding displays over the course of last two weeks and continues to make headlines every day, was all set to be cut down by the team management
later this month or earlier in March.
Knicks interim General Manager Glen Grunwald recently revealed this news.
According to him, the team was planning few modifications because of the dismal display till that point and work was being done on Lin’s transfer to other teams, before Lin turned things around big time.
However, all that is history now and Glen is working on an extension contract for Lin, for what Lin has achieved in this short period. Glen, like everyone else, has been completely blown away by “Linsanity”.
So what is it about Lin that has impressed Glen so much?
"Just his ability to meet the challenge," Grunwald said. "You can see him rising to the occasion for one game, but to do it on a consistent basis and really meet the challenge -- that's really been the astounding part of it. Now
teams are looking to stop him and he still has been very successful. His competitive spirit and his team leadership and his ability to deal with what is presented to him in a game as a young player is very impressive."
Glen revealed that the team was under immense pressure of cutting few players and Lin was one of them. The deadline, in which a player is either cut down or given an extension, was nearing, and that is when it was decided to give
Lin a final go.
"We were obviously struggling (the Knicks were 8-15 at the time) and we were looking at what we needed to do to get this turned around and fortunately the guy was sitting on our bench."
Lin, who spent the first month on bench was given significant minutes for the first time on February 4th
in Knicks scrimmage against the New Jersey Nets and in his first chance, Lin made an impact, scoring 25 points and dishing out 7 assists. And what happened in the next few games, everyone is aware of.
New York Knicks would now definitely be pleased they did not trade Lin. He is not an ordinary player and has made a strong statement that if one is given chance, he can always turn around things.
