New York Knicks on the rampage; blow out Washington Wizards 103 – 65 – NBA Recap
The New York Knicks on Friday put on what was perhaps their most dominating display of the season, utterly destroying the hapless Washington Wizards in a 103 – 65 win. The Knicks were in control from start to finish at the Madison Square Garden as the home
support enjoyed a solid thrashing of the Wizards.
New York have been hampered with injuries to key players Amar’e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin, but that did not seem to be a issue on Friday as a whole host of other players stepped up.
Notable among them was veteran point guard Baron Davis, who recorded season high 18 points. His return to form could be pivotal for the Knicks who have struggled at the point guard position since Lin’s injury. New York head coach Mike Woodson was understandably
pleased.
"It was nice to see him have really a breakout game. He shot the ball extremely well. He did some nice things on the floor tonight and didn't have to play a lot of minutes to get it done."
Super star Carmelo Anthony scored 18 points and had 5 rebounds, Steve Novak added another 18 coming off the bench, and J.R. Smith top scored with 23.
Only three Washington players got into double digits on the night. Among them, perhaps only Jordan Crawford was noticeable with 17 points, the team high.
The Knicks were on the front foot early on. Woodson has instilled new defensive steel in his side and that showed in the first quarter as they held the visitors to just 13 points. On the other hand, the Knicks eased to 26 of their own, setting the tone for
the rest of the game.
The second quarter wasn’t much different. Although the Washington Wizards were able to connect more on offence, their defence was still pretty ordinary. The Knicks increased their lead before going into the half time break at 54 – 33.
Starting the second period with a 20+ points margin, the Knicks looked assured and comfortable on the court. Washington initially brought the margin to below 20 points, but what followed was a devastating run by New York; 15 – 0. It left the Wizards in tatters
trailing at 77 – 45, and they went into the final period behind 79 – 47.
The final period was but a formality, and Washington couldn’t wait for the final buzzer to ring and end their misery. New York captured the 103 – 65 win after outscoring the visitors again in the last 12 minutes.
