New York Knicks planning to fire the head coach Mike D Antoni? NBA Feature
New York Knicks have got off to an unimpressive start in the condensed NBA season, and that has led to increased discussion over the firing of their coach Mike D Antoni.
But is it fair?
Mike D Antoni, who took over the charge of the Knicks in 2008 is in the last year of his contract and according to me has been doing a fine job so far.
He struggled in the first two years, but that is a natural thing, because everyone needs some time to settle and to develop some cohesion with the superstars in the team.
In his four years, he has dealt four different rosters so that definitely played a big hand in him taking this much time to settle in the team. Despite, the new faces in the team ever year, he took the team to playoffs in the last
season, where they were eventually knocked out by the Boston Celtics in the first round.
Fair enough that fans and the management covet immediate results, but they should not forget, that team has gone through a lot of modifications in the recent times, like addition of giant, Carmelo Anthony last year and Tyson Chandler’s
this year.
With such modifications, it is impossible for anyone to come up with a strategy. Every player has a different game play and the coaches usually make a strategy based on the style of play of the roster.
So is this all Mike’s fault that Knicks have not been able to produce the results since his appointment?
Let’s talk about this season.
Knicks have lost to much weaker teams compared to them like Charlotte Bobcats and the Toronto raptors, which is alarming but one should not forget it is just the start of the season and the new strategy with new players will need
some time to develop.
And then, Knicks have been injury-plagued this season as well.
Amar’e Stoudemire has been the main victim of the injuries which is affecting his performance in the season. He struggled in the Knicks welcoming win against the Boston Celtics just few days but a player of his class needs only
one game to get back in rhythm.
Rumors are also that Knicks are planning to trade Stoudemire in the place of Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard, to add strength to the offense.
Maybe I am naive but I completely fail to understand this.
Although Howard is an outstanding player, but few bad performances and all of a sudden u decide to flush out the player that has done so much for the team?
I hope both the rumors relating to Stoudemire and Antoni’s firing prove wrong in the end because Knicks may not realize this, but this will hurt them in the long for sure.
