New York Knicks planning to land Dwight Howard - NBA Update
The way every team in NBA is running after Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, it looks like he is on some kind of a “mega sale”.
And although it is uncertain where he will eventually end up, one thing is for sure now that he is not going to be the part of Magic for very long. Howard has still not withdrawn his trade request, which has put Orlando in a mighty tough situation.
Los Angeles Lakers and New Jersey Nets have been amongst the teams that have showed the most hunger to acquire him, however there are other teams that are desperately trying to land Dwight as well.
New York Knicks have emerged as one of those teams and are at the moment believed to be working on trade exchange combinations.
“I’m positive the Knicks have called just in case Dwight changes up,” an Eastern Conference GM said, “I’m sure they’ve offered a combination of everybody, excluding Jeremy Lin, of course. (Magic GM) Otis (Smith) deserves a lot of credit for not putting it out on the street which teams have offered what.”
According to sources, a probable combination could be of Tyson Chandler and Amar’e Stoudemire. It is heard that both Magic and Knicks have talked about this deal, however the news is not completely authentic and has been denied by both the teams.
According to the same source, another proposed possible combination could be of Tyson, Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert. However in both cases, Knicks would have to take the $23.8 million two years remaining contract of Hedo Turkoglu along with Chris Duhon’s two years and $ 7.2 million.
Knicks are a team on the rise and it would be great for them if they manage to land Howard. Stoudemire and Tyson have not performed up to expectations this season and if these two are replaced with Howard, Knicks deep charge into this season would almost be guaranteed.
However, it is also possible that Howard would not be leaving the Magic at all. Just recently, he dished out a statement that he has not ruled out playing for the Magic.
Magic have spent a lot on Howard and just like other teams, are planning to build a team around him. They will give it everything to ensure Dwight stays with them. All said, with the March 15 deadline just around the corner, the next few days are going to be very important for Magic and the teams desperate to acquire the 'Superman'.
