New York Knicks receive another blow after the season ending injury of Jeremy Lin-NBA Update
Gloom surrounded injury ravaged New York Knicks this Saturday after losing Jeremy Lin permanently for this season. Lin will undergo a surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee and it is believed that a minimum of 6 weeks
will be required for recovery.
With just 4 weeks left in the regular season, the injury will end point guard’s season.
The journey from bench warmer to heart warmer was epic and Lin had to put a valiant fight throughout season to be known as “Linsanity”. Being waived off by Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets he finally boarded Knicks wagon
on Dec.27, he mostly assumed the role of a warm body for the bench earlier as he used to come off late from the bench playing a limited role for limited time.
The scenario changed dynamically after coach Mike D’ Antoni carved out the talent in him, he became the centrepiece in his run-and –gun offensive strategy. Thus he played for 36 minutes against New Jersey Nets on February 4th
and the big ball handler tallied 25 points and dished out 7 assists.
From this point onwards “Linsanity” became sporadic and there was no defence strong enough to curtail his raging charge. He started 25 of 35 games while averaging 14.6 points, 6.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in this season.
His shining moment came on the night of 10th February against Los Angeles Lakers. He collected a career high 38 points in that match.
Now after reaching the pinnacle of his game he has to hang his snickers due to torn meniscus. He was naturally devastated.
“If this was done very early in the year, obviously ... I don't know where my career would be. I could be, would be definitely without a job and probably fighting for a summer league spot," Lin said. "But having said that, this
happening now hurts just as much, because all the players, we really put our heart and souls into the team and into season, and to not be there when it really matters most is hard."
Though he lost his shooting touch under the stewardship of Mike Woodson, as he emphasizes more on the D but he still was the cardinal player for Knicks. His presence in the team became eminent after Amar’e Stoudemire’s season
ending injury.
New York is struggling on the final 8th spot in Eastern Conference for playoffs; having a neck to neck competition with Milwaukee Bucks for the said spot. With their 2 lead scorers ousted permanently for the season,
Carmelo Anthony will have to put in mammoth efforts to ensure his team’s survival in the playoff’s picture.
For Lin who will be having the surgery next week in New York this whole situation is very disturbing. He was in a sombre mood while breaking the news for his injury in front of a press conference.
"It (stinks) not being able to be out there with the team,"
