New York Knicks rout Washington Wizards; Orlando Magic cool off Miami Heat - NBA Roundup Feb 8
New York Knicks 107 vs. Washington Wizards 93
The New York Knicks were without Carmelo Anthony and Amare’ Stoudemire in the second game running and just like in the previous game, Jeremy Lin and Steve Novak carried the mantle. The surprise Big Apple duo also received 25 points
and 11 rebounds from Tyson Chandler tonight as the Knicks cruised to a 107-93 win over the Washington Wizards.
Playing at home, the Wizards were led by point guard John Wall, who had a game-high 29 points. Trevor Brooker also posted 17 on 8-of-11 from the floor.
The Wizards were hot early as they reeled off a 17-4 run enroute to a 23-17 lead in the first quarter. However, they entirely lost the plot in the second frame as Novak and Lin got going. Novak drilled 4 of his 5 three pointer
in the period while Lin scored 8 points as the Knicks raced to a 52-46 lead at the break.
The Wizards responded with a 10 point unanswered run to take a 56-54 lead and were still leading by 64-63 midway through the frame. Lin, who scored 12 points in the third, slipped in a pair of free throws at the point to a start
a 14-4 run and the Knicks never looked back after that.
Miami Heat 89 vs. Orlando Magic 102
On a night when Orlando Magic pummeled Miami Heat 17 three pointers, Dwight Howard posted 25 points and 24 rebounds to ensure a win in the battle of South Florida. Ryan Anderson scored 27 points, 24 of them in the first half and
added 11 rebounds.
Miami, who were led by 33 points from Dwyane Wade, never led throughout the game and were down by as many as 19 early in the fourth. That was the point when Heat coach Erik Spoelstra introduced LeBron James and within four minutes,
Miami made it nine point game at 80-89.
Jameer Nelson made a strike for the long range on the next possession and he was followed by another trey from Jason Richardson and the Heat never threatened after that.
James, who had burned the Magic with 51 points last time when he visited the Amway centre, ended the night with 17 points, six rebounds and 10 assists. Chris Bosh was the only other Heat player in double figures with 12 points
and 9 boards.
