New York Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire could make a return soon – NBA Update
The New York Knicks have not had any luck with injuries this season, with all of their star names absent from the campaign at one point or the other because of fitness issues. There is though some light at the end of the tunnel for the Knicks as various sources are suggesting that Amar’e Stoudemire could make a return, as soon as this week.
The power forward was injured on March 24th when he left the game with back pain. Stoudemire, who has longstanding back issues, was diagnosed with a bulging disc in his back and initially it was feared that his season may be over.
Later his injury schedule was changed to out for around 4 weeks, but now it is believed that the forward could return even sooner. He has taken part in practice, running and shooting has been going on for some time now. It has now been reported that Stoudemire took part in a recent 4-on-4 practice scrimmage, heightening his chances for a return.
The Knicks would certainly welcome him back to the fold, as his absence has coincided with that of rising sensation Jeremy Lin. Lin is out with a knee injury, and recently had surgery on his left knee. The point guard, who carried the Knicks at a time when both Stoudemire and super star Carmelo Anthony were both out, is not expected to make a return before the second round of NBA playoffs.
Anthony has taken responsibility with Stoudemire and Lin absent, and guided with Knicks to a 7 – 4 record in their absence. With Stoudemire now set to make a comeback, the Knicks would only get stronger as they strive to cement their playoff spot, which has looked under threat all season long.
More important would be the implications of Amar’e’s return on New York’s post season campaign. Head coach Mike Woodson, who only took over recently after Mike D’Antoni resigned after a poor string of results, could certainly use Stoudemire in the team before the playoffs.
That would give the Knicks time to get into a rhythm and Woodson to familiarize his star with plays and team tactics heading into the playoffs.
