New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony loses weight, believes time is coming – NBA Update
The New York Knicks fans had great expectations from Carmelo Anthony when the super star was signed from the Denver Nuggets and it now seems that Anthony is about to deliver on them. The forward, speaking after the unveiling of his wax statue, signalled
his intention to make a big impact next season.
Anthony communicated his belief in himself and his teammates, saying his time was just round the corner.
“I believe my time is coming,’’ Anthony said according to the New York Post. “I’m a big believer in that. Whether this year or next year, I truly believe our time is coming. We’re going to keep playing for that. ’
Carmelo just saw his long-time friend LeBron James lift the NBA World Championship with the Miami Heat, and it seems as if that has added to his motivation of doing better. In fact, the player appeared in much better shape during the press conference and
has indeed lost 12 pounds since he last stepped on an NBA court.
Knicks coach Mike Woodson had remarked that he would like to see Anthony in better shape for next season and the forward seems to have answered the call. In fact, Carmelo revealed that the Knicks coaching staff was surprised at the rate of his progress.
“I’m exceeding expectations,’’ Anthony said. “They were kind of shocked to see me down in weight. They came to my workout, saw it. They’re actually excited how much hard work I’ve put in since the season ended.’’
Anthony has faced much criticism since arriving in New York. Many fans and pundits believed that the Knicks paid over odds for a player who doesn’t necessarily put enough effort despite his enormous talent. His defence too has been called into question time
and again.
The player now appears focused on proving them wrong and is determined to build his side into title contenders and is currently helping in cultivating a team spirit.
“We’re just trying to get that camaraderie right now and a family mentality, tried to create a bond, not just on the court but off the court,’’ Anthony said.
