New York Knicks star Jeremy Lin careful with knee injury, will be back next season – NBA update
New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin became a global sensation at the start of the year after bursting onto the NBA scene. The player who captured the imagination of millions worldwide though did not have an ideal end to the season as his form dipped and
he suffered a knee injury.
Lin was believed to be out for at least the first round of the NBA playoffs when first reported injured, but he made steady progress after being operated upon and had an outside chance of making it in time to face the Miami Heat.
That though is no longer possible. Speaking before game-5 of the Knicks series against the Heat, Lin made it clear that he was treating his injury with care and would not be risking aggravating it anytime soon.
"I'm mostly worried about just not having to suffer a real setback, which would be a new knee injury," Lin said.
It came as a surprise to some who had earlier been encouraged by Lin’s fast pace of recovery, and speculation rose about a setback he might have suffered during rehabilitation. Jeremy denied it.
"There was nothing to set it back," Lin said. "I think to get from 85 percent to 100 percent takes more time than I may have thought."
When Lin burst onto the scene he led the Knicks to 7 straight wins almost all by himself, and his star rose so high that many established NBA super stars stood up to take notice. Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat has also taken a liking to the young player and
backed his decision of resting the knee as long as it required.
Wade was of the view that Lin shouldn’t take a chance if he could avoid it.
"Obviously, every player's different," Wade said Wednesday. "But when I think a player like him has a bright future, even though he probably can get out there and play, he's not going to be as effective as he wants to be and he might do further damage.”
The Knicks went onto lose game-5 and subsequently the series against Miami in Lin’s absence, meaning that their post season campaign is now over. It is not clear what the future holds for the organization but Jeremy has made it clear he wants to stay on.
"I'm definitely comfortable here," Lin said. "I love playing in New York. I love the fans. They gave me a chance."
