New York Knicks star Jeremy Lin undergoes knee surgery – NBA Update
New York Knicks have confirmed that rising star Jeremy Lin underwent surgery on his left knee on Monday. The point guard is likely to be ruled out of playing an NBA game for around 6 weeks now.
Lin had complained of knee pain and tests showed that the star had a chronic tear in meniscus in his left knee. The Knicks tried to treat the injury without surgery for some time, and were able to reduce the swelling. Lin himself wanted to postpone the surgery until after the season, but his pain didn’t rescind and in the end the franchise had no choice but to go ahead with it.
The point guard was in high spirits after the surgery, communicating through his Facebook page about the injury and thanking all his fans for their support.
"Praise God for a successful surgery! Now on the road to recovery! Lets gooo. Much love to all the fans for your support and kind words," Lin wrote on his Facebook page.
Lin’s injury has put a stop to his sensationalize rise to the top of the NBA. The former Harvard grad burst onto the scene with the Knicks after being an unknown entity in the league. He was given a change because of the many injuries suffered by New York, and he repaid the faith in him by performing tremendously well, leading his side to victory after victory.
Lin breathed new life into a Knicks campaign that looked set to fall apart as soon as January, but his shine had worn off a little recently. Star players Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony returned to the fold, limiting his influence on the team.
To further add to his woes, coach Mike D’Antoni, who had given Lin his big change, resigned after a dismal run of results. New York have picked up again under new coach Mike Woodson, but Jeremy’s injury and subsequent surgery mean that he is unlikely to play any further part for the team.
Jeremy is scheduled to be out until after the first round of the NBA playoffs and it is unclear whether the Knicks will make it that far, especially given that they are set to face tough opponents. In fact, playoff qualification doesn’t look safe as yet either, with New York on the edge in the Eastern Conference.
