New York Knicks win big against Detroit Pistons 113 – 86; Shake off bad form – NBA Recap
The New York Knicks recorded a much needed win after a rough patch for the side and they did so in style. The Knicks took on Detroit Pistons at the Madison Square Garden and dominated from start to finish, ending up with a 113 – 86 victory.
New York, especially head coach Mike D’Antoni, have come under fire recently for a series of tepid performances that have left a lot to be desired. Star man Carmelo Anthony has struggled with his shooting quite a bit which in turn has contributed to the
Knicks demise.
On Tuesday night though, Anthony finally found his rhythm and the team followed suit. Carmelo scored a game high 25 points and also had 6 assists to his name. Power forward Amar’e Stoudemire scored 15 points, Landry Fields had 18 while Tyson Chandler garnered
17 alongside 8 rebounds.
The Pistons on the other hand were largely disappointing. Young centre Greg Monroe was able to complete his double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Other than him, no player made significant enough contributions. Rodney Stuckey finished with 13 points
and Tayshaun Prince had 10.
New York had taken a lot of flak from the fans and the press because of their recent performances and it was clear that the team wanted to prove their doubters wrong when they took to the court at the MSG. They started the first quarter with intensity and
soon had their opponents on the mat, up 17 – 7 near the halfway mark.
The Pistons didn’t seem able to obstruct the Knicks offence, which piled on 33 points in the first period. The second was a slower paced affair but the Knicks still maintained the upper hand and the first half finished with the home team leading at 57 –
45.
Sensing the kill, New York came out all guns blazing after the interval. They settled the game in the third period on the back of some stout defending that rendered the Pistons pretty harmless. Detroit could only manage 12 in the quarter while New York scored
24.
With the score 81 – 57 going into the penultimate segment, it was but a formality. The Knicks strolled through to seal a massive win, 113 – 86.
