New York Liberty beat Atlanta Dream; Connecticut Sun edge out Indiana Fever - WNBA Roundup 19th June
On Tuesday night, a total of 2 games were played out in WNBA with New York Liberty coming out away winners against Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun earning a hard fought home win against the Indiana Fever.
Let`s round the proceedings of the day.
1.       New York Liberty 73 - Atlanta Dream 60
In the first match of the night, New York Liberty put up a sensational display against a woeful shooting Atlanta Dream to put an end to their two-game losing streak.
Playing away from home, Cappie Pondexter highlighted the proceedings for the Big Apple team with a double-double performance of 14 points and 13 assists. Essence Carson provided her a helping hand with 14 points of while Kia Vaughn
and Leilani Mitchell contributed 12 and 10 points respectively.
On the other hand, Atlanta playing without Angel McCoughtry for the second game running seemed lost on the offense and lost their second consecutive game.
Sancho Lyttle tried her best with double-double figures of 13 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsey Harding lend a helping hand by getting 13 points of her own but the teams overall 35.3% shooting from the field turned out to be one
of the main causes for the loss. Liberty shot at above 50 percent in the game and also dropped 6 long range bombs in 14 attempts.
2.       Connecticut Sun 88 - Indiana Fever 85
In the second matchup of the night, Connecticut Sun required a 22 point effort from Kara Lawson and extra five minutes to chalk out an 88-85 win over Indiana Fever.
Along with Lawson, four other players for Sun finished the night with double digit scores. Tina Charles signed off with 14 points and 8 rebounds to her name. Kalana Greene managed to get 12 points while Allison Hightower put up
10 points and 6 boards. The bench scoring was led by Renee Montgomery who finished the game with 12 points which included 2 key triples.
On the other hand, a 23 point – 9 rebound effort from Katie Douglas could not prevent the Fever from losing a tough away game. Tamika Catchings finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Briann January managed
12 points in the end.
Douglas and Katie made two big plays in the closing minute of regulation time to take the game into overtime.
Douglas then had the Fever up by two twice in O.T, but Indiana just didn’t find a shot in the last 2:36 of the game.
