New York Mets' starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey confident ahead of next season – MLB
The New York Mets’ starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey is enjoying this offseason after a superb 2011 campaign where he rattled many hitters with his extraordinary sinkers and his fast throwing.
Recently, during an interview, Pelfrey spoke with energy and mentioned that like last year, he is feeling passionate about 2012 Major League competition as well. Pelfrey said, “So this year becomes even more important. I’m a firm believer that you get out of it what you put into it and I’ve worked my tail off, cleared my head and analyzed. I feel like I’m throwing the ball great right now. It’s definitely an important year for me.”
He added, “The offseason clears your head and you can get a fresh start, It’s well-needed the way the year went. I’ve enjoyed the offseason and I’m getting that itch back to compete.”
Striking-out 105 batters, Pelfrey also achieved 4.74 ERA, 7-13 win-loss record, 1.47 WHIP and received much appreciation from many experts. His performance led his team to several victories that finished 77-85 at the end of the season.
He also expressed his inner desire of the Mets becoming World Series contenders again. Last year, the level of commitment they showed was pretty impressive but still they lacked proper hitters which caused them to have problems later in the season.
On the other hand, the Mets are also being criticised for not including many new or experienced players for the next season compared to some other top teams. The Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves have included several experienced players to put some extra pressure on their rivals next season.
In the meanwhile, Pelfrey, who is determined to do well in the next season, certainly knows his team’s current position that needed more talent this offseason to achieve certain results next season. Now, only the time will tell whether this lack of interest of the Mets' management bringing new players was right or wrong. It will be interesting to see how well the team manages to perform during the upcoming Spring Training session.
