New York Mets’ David Wright concerned over Jeff Wilpon's 'Underdog' T-Shirt motivational tactics
The New York Mets could not perform well in the 2011 Major League Baseball season and their management is now coming up with some tactical motivational strategies to inspire their entire roster to do well.
Lately, the franchise’s majority owner Jeff Wilpon introduced a T-shirt for his players and on which 'Underdog' is written to inspire them. Though many have mentioned in the media supporting this tactics from the owner itself, but lately some internal Mets’ players are showing slight resistance to accept the fact as they are underdogs at the moment.
Jeff Wilpon, who has been certainly concerned over his team’s last year’s performance in this offseason, suddenly told his advisers, top executives and some internal experts to suggest some motivational tactics for the team. Later, after a brief meeting with all of them, Wilpon came out with this strategy of introducing T-Shirts, on which “Underdog” will be written.
On a bigger picture, it seems little restrained attitude from these players who are showing not any serious support for this initiative. The truth of Mets’ being not able to achieve nothing but humiliation last season certainly will remain, whether their players accept it or not.
The much vocal, third-baseman David Wright stated in the media telling the reporters as he does not like the ‘Underdog’ word for his rest of the team.
“I don’t really like using the whole underdog thing. I don’t really like playing that card,” Wright said. “I think it’s just a way to remind everybody in here that the outside expectations aren’t the expectations that we have for ourselves.”
“But we in here kind of have to rally around that and get it going,” Wright continued. “I guess, at the end of the day, that is kind of an underdog theme, but we shouldn't view ourselves as that. We'll let everybody else view ourselves as that, because I think we kind of know what we’re capable of doing.”
Considering the fact as this might help the franchise at a lower level, but negating it totally will not be fare as well. Experts believe that David Wright is somewhat right in his say as they should not be heading into a season with last year’s memories instead focusing on future commitments with high energy.
